WORK EXPERIENCE & PLACEMENTS
Our work placement and work experience programs offer secondary students a wide range of opportunities to experience the work of work. WSMLLEN works directly with local businesses to offer, arrange and support schools to ensure students have meaningful opportunities.
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING
WSMLLEN coordinates the Wimmera Southern Mallee VET Cluster for Vocational Education & Training delivered in secondary schools. Our team works with schools and registered training organisations in the region to ensure young people have access and opportunity to quality training.
EARLY LITERACY SUPPORT
The Let’s Read Program educates the community on the importance of early literacy development and ensures children from the age of birth have access to books. Let’s Read is supported by a range of other initiatives including Pop-up Libraries, Reading Buddies, and the Read-to-Me Program.
MATES is an in-school youth mentoring program that can be delivered in both primary and secondary schools. MATES plays a pivotal role in supporting young people toward their positive future. MATES is a volunteer based program.
VIRTUAL REALITY IMMERSION
VIC VICE is a virtual reality platform that will allow secondary students to see touch and experience different workplaces. The platform is a modern solution to growing workforce shortages and a widening skills gap.
COMMUNITY & INDUSTRY NETWORKS
Community Action Networks and Industry Networks bring together representatives from key organisations in a local region to work together in meeting the needs of young people in schools to support wellbeing, pathways and transition.
WESTERN VICTORIAN CAREERS EXPO
The Western Victorian Careers Expo is country Victoria’s largest careers expo. Since its inception in 1986, this premier regional event has provided a one-stop-shop of vocational information to Western Victorian students, job seekers, and career changers.
ASPIRATIONS IN AGRICULTURE
Our area is a major agricultural and food producing region. Through the Secondary School Agricultural Fund, WSMLLEN in partnership with Longerenong College offer ‘Experience Longy’ immersions and camps. This work is supported by the ARC Linkage aspirational research program.
